We Shouldn’t Let This Divide Us?

I have been seeing a lot of posts that all say something to this affect:

I understand the sentiment, and, in the past, I would have agreed with it.  But that was then, this is now.  We’re no longer the People we used to be, and this election is not about two men, but two different world views.  Today, half the nation is still trying to hold on to our founding principles and ideals while the other half of the nation is not only trying to destroy those principles and ideals, they are saying they want to get rid of the half still trying to preserve them.  The side holding to our heritage also holds to an objective world view whereas the side seeking to destroy our heritage believes in an alternate reality totally at odds with the objective world.  The side trying to hold on still claims a belief in God, and tries — at least nominally — to obey Him, while the other side not only boasts about rejecting God, they literally claim to be their own gods.  These two sides are literally negations of each other.  By definition, they cannot coexist.  So, how does one remain friends with someone if they are part of the side that seeks to destroy you and the world you cherish.

It all reminds me of words I’ve hear before, and they are written in red:

Christ Divides People

49 “I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished! 51 Do you think that I came to provide peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division; 52 for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.
